Volunteers started brushing back the trail at the Oxford Road 33 entrance to the Centre Section of the Hickson Trail.
Many hands make light work, so we’re calling for as many volunteers as we can muster to help clear the trail next Saturday!
What Will We Be Doing?
The existing Hickson Trail has been shrinking in width over the years as plants grew abundantly. Because Upper Thames Brewing Company is sponsoring a “Fun Run” (proceeds to the Hickson Trail project) on the trail on September 16 the path needs to be rewidened. Last Saturday 2 of the 6 km of the existing Hickson Trail was brushed open to about 8 feet in width by a handful of dedicated volunteers. They worked from 9 am to 6 pm and did a great job, BUT we need to keep going and we need more strong arms to join us.
When and Where?
Please meet us Saturday, August 19, at 9 am, at the Braemar Road trail entrance. Raindate on Sunday. If you have them please bring lopping sheers, pruning saws, Sawsals, hedge trimmers, weed eaters, swede saws and/or rakes. Don’t forget to bring insect repellent and gloves.
This bird could be spotted along the Hickson Trail. This photo was taken locally by Richard Skevington.
Naturalists, runners, cyclists, walkers can you spare some time to HELP?
We need volunteers to help clear out a wider path in the south and middle sections of the Hickson Trail to at least 8 feet in width in order to comfortably accommodate the runners in the Upper Thames Brewing Company’s Fun Run in September. This run will help raise money to extend our trail through to Hickson.
Upper Thames Brewing Company, Woodstock, is supporting the Hickson Trail this summer in a big way. Their annual Fun Run this year is supporting the trail on September 16th.
Calling all volunteers!
This is the second trailer, upside down, awaiting being moved to its permanent location where it will be repurposed as a bridge on the Hickson Trail.
Thank you to the Hickson Lions Club for inviting the Hickson Trail Committee to enter a team in their fun One Minute to Win It contest last Friday during their Lions Days. As a result we won $400 that will go towards our expansion of the Hickson Trail. Please enjoy this little video showing our teams’ efforts. TAP, Tavistock Assistance Program, won $200. Congratulations TAP. Well played.
We are almost ready to change this view into a beautiful crossing of Mud Creek on the Hickson Trail. We need only $3,500 more to begin construction way ahead of our schedule.
Please, if you can, donate NOW if you haven’t already. https://www.gofundme.com/hickson-trail-expansion-project
The Goldfinch is such a pretty sight to see in the woods. They are even brighter in the Spring and Summer months.
